
Abstract
The paper at the introductory level, introduces the Federal College of Education Special, Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria as the only College of Special Education in the sub-Saharan Africa. It has the largest concentration of special education teachers in institutions in Nigeria and in sub-Saharan Africa. It has taking a step further apart from the training of teachers of the handicapped. Handicapped individuals are admitted and included in the normal programme. The paper cites examples of cerebral palsied, blind, deaf educable mentally retarded, learning disabled and individuals that are students in the areas of Mathematics, Social Studies, Computer Programme and the sciences, with necessary assistance through the newly established department of rehabilitative services are coping in the normal classroom setting. The paper, finally suggests ways to improve the services and to extend the services to other institutions where special education exists.
