Special Education Teacher Preparation in Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo: Future Directions

Abstract

Within the past decade, dramatic changes in the education of exceptional children and youths have raised challenging issues for professional personnel in the field. These issues are an outgrowth of dynamic changes in population, patterns of service, and increasing interest in the provision of equality of educational opportunity etc. all of which have posed problems in concepts and current practices in education. One of the most crucial issues is the increased concern about the qualitative aspect of the preparation of teachers for the various categories of exceptionality. This paper therefore, attempts to study intensively and objectively the programme now offered to teachers of exceptional children at the Federal college of Education (special) Oyo and to come forth with some constructive modifications that may improve what we are doing now.
