Communication: Children's way of Living

Kirsten Baltzer - Institute of Psychology and Special Education, Copenhagen, Denmark

Abstract

The inspiration is Foucault's notion of technologies of the self-permitting individuals to effect by their own means or with help of others a certain number of operations on their own bodies and souls.

Hence the self in sociological as well in psychological understanding becomes a core category of pedagogical or educational psychology. Communication is an essential skill in the creation of personal sense of operations, actions, and activities. It is a basic skill for the technologies of the self.

To move from special needs education to differentiated teaching necessitates a shift of focus in the learning processes: From content to communication about content. I will try to sketch out a theoretical framework for communication about the personal sense of the content of teaching learning processes.
