Abstract
My paper will be a first person account of my perspectives in Higher Education. I will be giving a critical and a comparative overview of my own personal experience in two Higher Education Institutions in England which I was fortunate to attend, namely, Oxford Brookes University, where I did a one year Post-Graduate Diploma in Advanced Publishing, and currently the Institute of Education, where I am doing my Masters. It also examines how women with disabilities are viewed as being dependent on society. Disabled women do not fit under the stereotypical image of the 'body beautiful' syndrome, which I focus on in this paper. My paper will also focus on the kind of barriers, academic and environmental that I came up against, within the framework of the social model of disability, keeping in mind my own physical disability which impedes my mobility and my speech, with a special focus on Gender Studies and Women with Disabilities.
