Abstract
Several research studies undertaken recently at the National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales (NFER) have highlighted the fact that there is a danger of taking too narrow a view of those who need to be included and remaining ignorant of the needs of some minority, or less vocal groups. This symposium will present data which suggest how this view might be widened, in particular focusing on the necessity for multi-agency involvement and communicating with a wide range of practitioners and support users, Each presentation will identify the way in which 'the voice' has been lost and suggest ways in which environments an be managed so that it is heard.
