Development of a Computerised Learning Material for Time-Telling and its Utilisation for Children with Mental Retardation

Masahiro Gotoh - Tomisato Special School, Japan

Abstract

In this study, I developed a computerized learning material for time-telling and used it for children with mild or moderate mental retardation. The subjects were five children with difficulties in time-telling tasks. They were in the age range 13:0-15:9, and they ware the students of a special school. In this learning material, matching-to-sample procedures were used. For example, one subject learned by pointing the picture of a clock which indicated the time when his favourite TV program starts. Other subjects learned the terms about time-telling tasks(long-short, o'clock, minutes etc.), then learned by matching figures to clock patterns. After using this material, some successful results and weak points in the procedures were appeared
