Abstract

Until recently, little attention has been paid to the way in which the resourcing (financing) of special education can support - or hinder - desired professional practice. While recent studies in this area have been largely prompted by administrators' concerns about both escalating budgets and the transparency of resource allocation, they have generated a growing corpus of data about the effects of different means of resource allocation on the curricular experiences of pupils and on inclusive practices.

In this symposium, researchers will discuss findings from major studies of aspects of the financing of special education, with particular reference to implications for inclusion, in the respective countries. The papers will explore themes and issues, rather than describe the details of individual mechanisms, so that the symposium will be of interest to colleagues from a wide range of administrative backgrounds.
