Abstract
Some students, for various reasons, cannot or will not pursue their educations in traditional high schools. They leave before graduation willingly or through suspension exclusion, perhaps never to return. Frequently this reduces their further educational and employment opportunities, and it may decrease the likelihood that they will become contributing members of society. Educators continue, therefore, to try to address this problem through alternative educational designs. This paper describes one such alternative from the perspectives of the involved staff and students. Interviews, questionnaires. Related literature and school visits informed the researcher.
Within the paper, the school philosophy is outlined, the operation of the schools is described, a staff profile is developed, and responses to student needs are documented. In addition the need for "caring" teachers and administrators is advanced.
