Groups Currently Being Marginalised within Existing Arrangements

Rachel Kamau - Kenyatta University, Kenya

Abstract

In this paper I will discuss the marginalization of the gifted and talented in developing countries in general and Kenya in particular. In addition, I will endeavour to argue the importance of the recognition of individuals with exceptional abilities and new provision of appropriate educational programmes and services could enhance the quality of educational systems in particular and the general development of the same. As children the gifted and talented have a right to educational programmes that are commensurate to their abilities and especially with the realisation that their self-actualisation is a resource to the development of the individuals and respective countries not to mention the human kind. Developing countries need to come up with policies to actualise the right of education for all and especially the gifted and talented.
