Including the Excluded

Thomas Patrick Otaah - Ofinso Training College, Ghana

Abstract

The world has become a global village and the need for inclusive societies is very vital. Though as individuals, we are unique and quite different from each other in all respects, we all need the same things in life. For instance we need good drinking water, good diet, good health, good housing facilities etc. and of course good education, and that good education is inclusive education.

What we have failed to include - the excluded - must be included to promote inclusive education which will ultimately, produce and create inclusive societies. We need to include the following in our IE initiatives....

All parents; Disabled men and women, boys and girls; Opinion Leaders; Churches; NGO's; Philanthropists and benevolent societies; Ministries of Finance, Health, employment and Social Welfare, Education, etc.; All teachers - in the administrative, supervisory, teaching capacities; Policy makers; Presidents or Heads of State; Young Children or pre-school children; Heads of Departments in every sector of the economy, etc.

The list is not exhaustive.
