Encouraging Reflection on Inclusion as a Part of Courses at University

Carmen Garcia Pastor - University of Seville

Abstract

This paper shows the reflections of different professionals involved in inclusion: support teachers, lectures in special education training teachers and support team professionals. There are students of a Doctorate Course in the University of Cadiz (Spain) called 'The challenge of diversity' as a product of this course they have written their reflections about their personal ideas, beliefs and feelings in the changing situation that they are living as a consequence of the process of implementation of inclusion.

We have analysed the texts through a content analysis and coded into categories in order to explain these ideas, beliefs and feelings. The results that we will show evidence of a deep involvement in the process of change and the uncertainties that these professionals experience even at an ethical dimension. These results could be significant because many times these personal views are not explicated in current contributions or research in our field. In fact, our own previous research could not capture this dimension. Then we assume that it is possible encouraging a reflective discourse as a part of the training for educational professional, as a way to increase personal involvement and to develop an autonomous and critical position in the process towards an inclusive education.
