What Needs do Pupils have to their Schools, Transferring and Returning again Between the Special School for the Physically Handicapped and Regular Schools?

Shimiza Satoshi - Kirigaoka Physically handicapped School attached to University of Tsuukuba, Tokyo, Japan

Abstract

I have two cases. One is a multiple physically handicapped person who had been at our primary school (special school for the physically handicapped). On leaving a primary school department, he transferred to a public secondary school (regular class). However, he couldn't enjoy his school life there. So he returned to our upper school department after he left the regular school. Now he is 22 years old and in the job training centre.

The other is a physically handicapped person (cerebral palsy) who went to a public primary school (regular class). When he was a 3rd grader, he transferred from the public primary school to our primary school department because of bullying. After he finished our primary and secondary school, he returned a public upper school (regular class). Now he is the 2nd grader school student (age 17).

I interviewed them and their parents last year. I would like to discuss what should be done for them and the actual conditions between the special school for the physically handicapped and regular schools.
