Abstract

This session is intended to share with the international community, the objectives and main lines of actions of UNESCO in responding to the challenges set forth by the World Conference on Special Needs Education, Salamanca, Spain, 1994.

Major UNESCO initiatives will be reported on, in particular the following:

• Development of national capacities, including teacher development.
• The international project 'Inclusive Schools and Community Support Programmes'.
• Disability issues coming in into Major Education Events.
• Working towards a transformative education agenda where inclusive education and education for all meet.

Interventions from leading consultants and resource people who have made a major contribution to UNESCO's mission, from partners from member states, and from UNESCO staff.
